Miss Caldwell’s class will be selling Heart Grams by the front office of the Main building before school and at lunch beginning Monday, January 25^th.   There are 15 card designs to choose from each with a little sweet treat inside at a cost of 50cents each. 

Cards will be delivered to lucky recipients during block 8 on February 11^th.

Attention all students, including Freshmen!!! Come to the first Key Club meeting of the year Tues. Jan. 26th. We will meet in room 133, by student services. Lunch will be provided. We will be discussing our plans for the rest of the year. Key Club is sponsored by the Coos Bay Kiwanis Club and is an excellent way to meet your community service requirement for graduation and there are many local scholarships awarded each year. Come see what it is all about!

Will the course of true love run smooth?  "Much Ado About Nothing" is comedy with a bite. 

Shakespeare offers us a delightful story of love overshadowed with deceit.  

Indeed, deception is one of the major themes of the play.  Shakespeare offers us two very

different couples: the ever battling Beatrice and Benedick cope with the loving “deceits”

of their friends who attempt to trick the couple into realizing how much they love one

another; and Hero and Claudio, who must endure the evil machinations of the cruel and

vicious Don John.  Fortunately, a bumbling constable stumbles onto the truth and all comes

out well. 

"Much Ado About Nothing" is one of the Bard’s most popular comedies and most musical plays

with a long history of success on the stage.

Talent Search Freshmen and Sophomores: Talent Search is bringing the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry to SOCC on Thursday, Jan. 28th! OMSI will bring its travelling planetarium to teach students astronomy. Space is limited, and Sophomores will get priority on the list. Come see Mr. Winberg in room 137 for permission slip. The Marshfield Scholarship Application is now available on the MHS home webpage.  The early bird deadline is February 12^th at 3:00pm.  Room 123 will be open that day from 9-3 for help.  All college bound or vocational/technical students should apply.

 

 

The OSAC early bird scholarship deadline is February 16^th.  If you want to meet this deadline you need to request a transcript to be sent by February 9^th from Mrs. Patnode in the Principal’s office.  The OSAC scholarship application can be found a www.getcollegefunds.org.

On Friday, February 26^th Portland State University will be hosting their Engineering Discovery Showcase hosted by the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State.  This is a great opportunity to learn about engineering in a creative, hands-on, interactive way.  See the counseling office for more information.  (Skinner 1/20-2/26)

Starting at the new semester on Tuesday, Feb. 2^nd, Mr. Mulkey, Mr. Trendell and Mr. Bryant will be conducting morning tardy sweeps on campus before the first block period and after the first block period. This means if you are outside the building when the tardy bell rings you will be sent to ISS in room 40 of the main for that morning’s block period. The expectation is to be in class on-time. Please plan accordingly.

We will be on a one hour assembly schedule Thursday, January 7. There are three main objectives for the hour assembly - 1) Seniors will receive a presentation from Caddie McKeown in the auditorium and an up-date on important timelines prior to graduation. 2) Freshmen, sophomore and junior students will remain in 1st block and use it as a study hall and/or be allowed to go to other classes for make-up assignments 3) Freshmen will report to the West Gym @ 9:50 for a class meeting after their thirty five minutes of study hall and/or seeking help from another instructor.

The freshmen, sophomores and juniors will not be able to leave 1st period block unless they have a written pass from the requesting instructor.

Interested students not already participating in an interscholastic sport can get stronger and faster in a program that emphasizes plyometrics, olympic lifting, and gymnastic elements. Practices run from 3:00 to 4:30 four days a week. Ask captains Andrew Davidson, Chris Cordova, or Blake Kemp for details." Thank you, Coach McIntosh

 The 8^th Annual Coos Bay/North Bend Bus Jam is this Saturday.  Bus Jam is a one-day collection of new toys and non-perishable foods to help Coos County families in need.  Donations are stuffed on busses located at the Coos Bay and North Bend Bi-Mart Stores  from 10am-3pm).

Friday, December 5, 2009: Miss Coos County's Outstanding Teen Program will be holding its annual Teen Boot Camp on the SWOCC campus in Empire Hall upstairs in LVE. It will be an all day camp covering every aspect of the program including:

 A complete look at our scholarship program

 

 The opportunity to meet girls your age who share your desire in bettering themselves through competition for scholarship money you can access when you graduate

In order to compete in our annual pageant, you must complete the Boot Camp. The cost of the camp is $200.00. The money generated goes directly into the scholarship fund. We encourage you to find a sponsor for your camp fee. Deadline for registration is December 4th. If you do not already have a registration form, one can be obtained by emailing Maureen Everetts at stinkeyemom@hotmail.com

Are you looking for a gift to give to someone special, but don't have the cash?  Consider giving the gift of a book.   The library will have their 4th Annual Treasure Chest of Books available to MHS students.  The Treasure Chest is available at lunch time during the week of Dec 7- Dec 11.  There are books for all ages.  Donation are appreciated, but not required. The Director of "The Wizard of Oz", Byrell Justice, has announced that tryouts will be December 7th, 8th and 10th, 2009.  (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). (No auditions Thursday because the theatre is booked).

EVERY ROLE IN THIS PLAY IS AVAILABLE!
NOTHING HAS BEEN PRE-CAST!!

Everyone wanting to audition for a principle character (Dorothy, Glenda, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Wicked Witch of the West, and the Wizard) needs to come with a two minute, memorized monologue

Tuesday, December 15th ALL JUNIORS will be attending College 101 at Southwestern Oregon Community College.  Students will be gone from approximately 8:30-11:30.

Attention slam poets and those who love to watch poetry slams:  Marshfield's first poetry slam of the school year will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the MHS cafeteria.  Poets should start fine tuning those poems. More information will follow.  Interested students should ask their English teacher for details or stop by and see Mrs. Hampton in Room 146 in the Main Building if they have questions.
