Ellen took 2nd place in Senior Prose Reading and Justin took second in Senior Serious Interpretation.

 

 

Students

A new group will start on Monday, December 1st at Lunchtime for students dealing with family members, who use alcohol or drugs.  The group will be a confidential and safe place to bring together a small group of students with similar problems to get information, skills and for peer support.  If you are interested in participating contact your counselor (Mr.. Ferrin, Mr.. Miles or Ms. Skinner) or Susan Chappelear at 267-1336 for further information. 

 

SENIORS:  Chad from Jostens will be here on Friday, November 21st in the main hall at lunchtime.  He has rings to deliver and will be taking any late orders if you have not yet ordered your senior stuff.  Make sure to stop by and see him if you have any questions.

The annual fall canned food drive has started – each class and the staff have boxes in the halls to put their canned food into.  Student Council will also be going door to door this weekend to get donations for the food drive. 

There will a prize awarded to the class with the most cans – and if we total over 1500 can donations the whole school will receive an hour long lunch in December.  If you have any questions or want to donate please see a student council

member.

 

Marshfield's third annual poetry slam will happen on Wednesday, Dec. 10.  For all you poets out there, it is time to start preparing a new piece to present at the slam.  For fans of the poetry slam, it is time to make plans to attend.  The slam will be hosted by the MHS English Department in the Drama Lab and begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10.  If you're not sure what a poetry slam is you will start hearing about it in your English class and will see a video of it at this week's pep assembly featuring last year's champion poet.  Interested students can ask their English teachers for more information or see Mrs. Hampton in Room 143.

 

Students:  SWOYA will be closed on Wed. Thurs, and Friday, November 26, 27 and 28.

"Students and Staff: It is time to put together Christmas Shoe Boxes again!  Please remember to bring your items for the shoe boxes to your advisory class. Children suffering from war and natural disasters really appreciate receiving these shoe box gifts. The advisory that brings in the most items will win ice cream!  Some things you can bring in are: small toy cars and trucks, small stuffed animals or dolls, yo yo's, flashlights with batteries, hard candy & sugar free gum, See your advisor for more gift ideas. Deadline is November 20th!"

 

"See's Candy bars for Sale!  There are four kinds: Milk chocolate, toffee nugget, dark chocolate with almonds, and milk chocolate with almonds. They are so good! Only $1.50 each. You can buy from Yahweh's Daughters or in PH 600. Get yours while they last!"

 

 

Readers of Adventure Stories:  – Come to the Library and enter the chance to win a jar full of CANDY.  One guess for each ADVENTURE book you have read this school year, will get you one treat a day.  The more you have read. . .the more chances you have to win.  Contest ends at 3:13 on November 25, 2008.

COLLEGE

Southwestern is partnering with OSAC, ASPIRE and Oregon GEAR UP and Educational Credit Management Corporation to offer a free College Night in Oregon event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, on the Coos Bay campus.

Parents and future college students are invited to come eat pizza and get information about planning and paying for college, as well as the opportunity to win one of four $500 scholarships. The agenda is as follows:

§  6 to 6:30 p.m., free pizza and soda at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute;

§  6:30 to 7 p.m., overview session in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts;

§  7 to 8:30 p.m., three half-hour break-out sessions back-to-back in the Lakeview Rooms; and

§  8:30 to 9 p.m., scholarship drawing in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts.

ROOTERS BUS TO WATCH PLAYOFF FOOTBALL: We are planning to have a rooters' bus to go to Jefferson High School to cheer on our Football team this Friday. Jefferson High School is in Portland and if you are interested in riding the bus please come to the Athletic Department to get a permission form and sign up. We want lots of fans at our game to help us through the playoffs. GO PIRATES!

COLLEGE

Wednesday, November 5th is the regular Deadline for the December 6th SAT Test.  Seniors should register if they haven't taken it already or if they want to re-take if before the scholarship applications begin. 

 

Talent Search Seniors: The last day to sign up with a fee waiver for the December 6th SAT Test is Wednesday, November 5th. Missing the December SAT Test means colleges may not have your scores in time for the admission process.

 

University of Portland will be hosting campus visit days on November 10th and 11th.  See student services for more information.

  

Lewis and Clark College will be hosting an on campus event on Saturday, November 8th from 8:00am-2:00pm.  They will also be at several college fairs.  For more information see student services.

ROOTERS BUS TO WATCH PLAYOFF FOOTBALL:  We are planning to have a rooters’ bus to go to Jefferson High School to cheer on our Football team next Friday.  Jefferson High School is in Portland and if you are interested in riding the bus please come to the Athletic Department to get a permission form and sign up.  We want lots of fans at our game to help us through the playoffs.  GO PIRATES!

"Students and Staff: It is time to put together Christmas Shoe Boxes again!  Please remember to bring your items for the shoe boxes to your advisory class. Children suffering from war and natural disasters really appreciate receiving these shoe box gifts. The advisory that brings in the most items will win ice cream!  Some things you can bring in are: small toy cars and trucks, small stuffed animals or dolls, yo yo's, flashlights with batteries, hard candy & sugar free gum, See your advisor for more gift ideas. Applications are now availably for the Miss Coos County Scholarship Program. If you are a senior girl age 17 or older you should look into this fun and rewarding program. Applications are available in student services and from Mrs. Bunnell.

 

Readers of Adventure Stories:  – Come to the Library and enter the chance to win a jar full of CANDY.  One guess for each ADVENTURE book you have read this school year, will get you one treat a day.  The more you have read. . .the more chances you have to win.  Contest ends at 3:13 on November 25, 2008.

~The Harding Sleepover on November 7th and the Eugene Trip dates will be changed.  You will be notified soon on the new dates that these are set for. 

~Our next meeting will be on November 13th during lunch in the girls locker room. 

~The holidays are coming up and we have quite a few sign ups for community activities (Shore Acres, Bell Ringing, etc.)

~Don't forget to bring in your nonperishable items for the Thanksgiving Day baskets, let's make somebody's Thanksgiving one to remember!!! Items can    be taken to Angie Kemp in the West Gym or Sarah Button in room #147. 

 

Pirate Volleyball Club will be holding an informational parent meeting on Sunday, November 9th at Marshfield High School at 2:00 pm.  Tryouts for the 16 and under and 18 and under teams will be held Sunday, November 23rd in the Marshfield Main gym from 2:00-5:00.

FALL ATHLETES IN Soccer, Cross Country & Volleyball:  Your awards dessert is next Thursday, at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria.  Please invite your parents to join us. 

 

Girls Basketball Tryouts will be Wednesday, November 12 and Thursday, November 13 from 3:30 - 5:30 in the Harding gym.  Please get your gold card before tryouts.  Conditioning is going on this week from 3:30-4:30 at the track, and we have open gym Thursday at 4:30 and next Tuesday at 5:00.

 

Calling all Lady Pirate Bowlers - Join the girls bowling team and receive a free bowling ball, free lessons, free practice, free pass for bowling league, AND all the fun you can handle.  Contact Nurse Shannon ASAP.

 

If you are wanting to join the MHS Cheer Team, here's your chance! There will be tryouts Friday November 14, 2008 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Tryout packets and information are in Mrs. Reiber's office. COLLEGE

Wednesday, November 5th is the regular Deadline for the December 6th SAT Test.  Seniors should register if they haven't taken it already or if they want to re-take if before the scholarship applications begin. 

 

 

Talent Search Seniors: The last day to sign up with a fee waiver for the December 6th SAT Test is Wednesday, November 5th. Missing the December SAT Test means colleges may not have your scores in time for the admission process.

 

University of Portland will be hosting campus visit days on November 10th and 11th.  See student services for more information.

  

Lewis and Clark College will be hosting an on campus event on Saturday, November 8th from 8:00am-2:00pm.  They will also be at several college fairs.  For more information see student services.

The Engineering Discovery Showcase is a fun, hands-on, interactive event for students interested in engineering and computer science. Meet PSU engineering and computer science faculty and students; learn about the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science degree programs and innovative research opportunities through interactive lab tours.
