At the National Qualifying Tournament (National Forensic League) last weekend Marshfield took 4th place overall. Jessica Fox (11) finished in the top 8 Lincoln-Douglas Debate teams and  Logan Emlet (11) took 5th place in International Extemporaneous Speaking..

 

Winning and going to Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama (we need to get permission for the school board, of course) are:

 

Jamey Moriarty(11) and Ellen Fields (12) in Dual Interpretation.

 Joe Frost (12)in Humorous Interpretation

PROM MONEY:  We can WIN fifteen hundred dollars by selecting healthy choices during the month of March!   Eat breakfast at Cross Roads Café during National School Breakfast Week for 50 points.  This is the most points we can earn!  Let’s do it and win one thousand, five hundred dollars! 

 

DMV…..students planning to test for the Oregon Driving PERMIT during spring break should pick up the required DMV enrollment form from the principal’s office by Friday, March 20.  Please plan to pick up the form before you leave as no one may be available at school to provide one during spring break.  (Howard 3/16-20)

 

SENIORS wishing to represent their class at graduation by speaking during the graduation program should begin preparing for tryouts.  Selection of senior students is scheduled to begin following spring break.  Watch for an announcement indicating dates and times.  The selection process will be completed by the end of April.  (Howard 3/16-18, 23-25)

 

SOCC advisors will be on MHS campus on Monday, April 1st.   All students interested in attending SOCC can sign up or find out more information in the counseling office. (Student Services 3.12.09 to 4.1.09)

 

STUDENTS:  Please be aware that both the attendance office and the athletics office have moved.  Effective today, attendance is again located in the dean’s office so excuses and other attendance information will be available there from Mrs. Spillman.  The athletic department has returned to Pirate Hall and Mrs. Reiber will be assisting student athletics from her Pirate Hall office.  If you have questions on parking or lockers, Mrs. Ice will now be in student services and will be able to assist you with those items.

STUDENTS:  Messages to students have become a very-time consuming service.  Your help is requested in eliminating non-essential reminders and other incidental messages.  Please make notes of your own to remind you of important appointments such as dental visits, doctor appointments, after school plans, etc and be responsible for remembering them.   This will help office personnel and clerical assistants to provide other necessary services.  (3/9-20)

 

The Fifth Annual Coos County Youth Summit is coming March 18th at SOCC from 8:30am until 2:30pm. The theme of this year’s youth summit is “Bring on the Green,” which was chosen by the student planning committee in order to focus on personal responsibility to our planet. Students need to get a permission slip from Student Services or see Mr. Winberg in room 137. MHS can take forty 9th-11th grade students this year, so get your permission slips turned in fast.      (Winberg: run 3/17)

 

VISIONS 2009 JURIED ART SHOW call for entries!  Three winners will receive 2-year tuition waivers from SOCC- based on your art entry NOT on grades or current year in school.  Freshmen can win as easily as Seniors! Your art can speak for its self.  Deadline for MHS prescreening of entries is Thursday,  APRIL 2, 2009.  See Mr. Jacobson in the art room #46 for details and entry form.

ALL FEMALE STUDENTS WHO WERE ENROLLED IN A PE CLASS DURING 2nd TRIMESTER:  You were to have removed all personal belongings and turned in your PE lock by the last day of 2nd Trimester. If you did not do so, you will need to check at the PE Office by the end of the day on THURSDAY, MARCH 12th to collect your personal belongings.  ALL PE LOCKERS were cleaned out on Thursday, March 5th in preparation for a locker room deep clean.(Mrs. Lecrenski/Mrs. Kemp/Ms. Lewis 3/11-12)

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY will meet this Thursday, March 12, at lunch in Mrs. Danielson’s room.  We will be finalizing plans to work at Blossom Gulch Family Fun Night on Friday and signing up  to judge at the Millicoma Science Fair in April.  Seniors, remember your honor cord money!!  (Danielson, 3/10-12)

The library and computer lab are closed for a Knowledge Bowl meet from 2nd period through 6th period on TUESDAY the 10th, including Lunch.  The library and computer lab will be open for student use after school.  (Hill  3/9-10)
