The next Z Club meeting (including pizza and candy) will be TODAY.  The meeting will be during lunch in room #146.  At the meeting we will be voting on officers for the 2009/2010 school year.  If you would like to run for Z Club President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer please see Sarah Eunice in room #147 for the application.  All applications must be returned to Mrs. Eunice before May 18th.   We will also have details on our May 29th sleep over and summer plans.  Don't miss this next meeting!!!

Attention all students:  If you have participated with the knowledge bowl team at any meet this year, we want you to join us for our end-of-the-year celebration this Friday! It will be held in Mr. Hill's room during lunch and will involve good food, awards, and a fun time.  See you this Friday at lunch!

Seniors, do you still need to complete community service hours??  If so, there will be a car wash supporting the Senior All Night Party at Umpqua Bank on Saturday from 10am – 2pm.  You need to sign up in the main office if you want to help out and get credit for community service.

Students -- Join us for a full day of Memorial Day activities on Saturday.  The 21st annual Memorial Day Parade begins at 11am and students are invited to help veterans’ groups with the logistics of the parade, make a float or other entry, or help publicize the afternoon ceremony at MHS by distributing flyers to parade viewers.  Following the parade, students are needed to help with set-up and hosting for the Oregon Honorable Service Medal Presentation.  The ceremony begins at 1 pm and will culminate with the presentation of the Oregon Honorable Service Medal to local veterans.  This special medal is available to any honorably discharged veteran or person currently serving in the Armed Forces who is residing in Oregon.  If the veteran is deceased, a family member/next of kin may apply on veteran’s behalf.  Check with family members and friends to determine who has served and help them receive their medal.  There will also be a dedication of a new headstone for a Civil War veteran buried in the cemetery, led by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in period dress.

Stand for Children is offering scholarships to Outstanding Students who "Beat the Odds."  If you are a senior and have succeeded academically despite hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness or personal tragedy check out this scholarship.  The deadline to apply is Friday, September 18, 2009.  For more information see student services or visit www.standleadershipcenter.org/bto  (Coun., June 3rd)

The Marshfield boy's team won their 2nd ever district title Friday at Silke field.  Our girls placed 3rd but when their points were added to our boy's points we also won the co-ed first place trophy.  The following athletes have qualified for the state meet this Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field:

Beth Palmer from the South Coast Business Employment Corporation will be here on Thursday from 10:20am - 11:20am to present information and answer questions about the Summer Youth Program in the West Gym.  SCBEC received some stimulus funds to assist youth between the ages of 14 – 24 years of age with employment.  They are looking at crew worksites and also individual career related work sites to place youth.  They will also place some as crew leaders (ages of 18-24).  SCBEC will pay 8.40 hourly and work will be 24-32 hours weekly starting on July 6th and continuing through August 14th.   There is a family income level qualification (Free and Reduced Lunch participants qualify). Students interested in participating need to pick up an application in Student Services and sign up to attend the Thursday meeting.  If you have any questions, see your counselor, Mr. Winberg, Mr. Finney or Mrs. Ice.

            Payment for lost or overdue library materials are due in the library no later than Friday, May 29th.  Check with library personnel to determine if you owe fees.

            All textbooks must be turned in before the end of the day on June 3rd. 

            If you owe past fees in the main office, it’s not too early to pay them.  Don’t wait until the last minute.

            If you owe lunch charges, they have to be paid in the main office.

            Diplomas can be withheld for students who have not fulfilled financial responsibilities.

            Also, if you plan to attend college in the fall you must let Mrs. Patnode know the name of the college to which you would like your final transcript sent.  (Howard)

WANT TO PLAY IN A DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT?    Bandon High school is hosting a dodgeball tournament and the proceeds will go to their associated student body fund.  Anyone is invited to fill out the application, pay the $50 enterY FEE and participate on May 30th at Bandon High School.  So round up as many as 10 friends to make a team and join in the fun.  For more information and to get a registration form, you can contact Mr. Freitag at 347-4414.    LET’S PLAY DODGEBALL!!!  (5/11-15)
