STUDENTS

 

Students

A new group will start on Monday, December 1st at Lunchtime for students dealing with family members, who use alcohol or drugs.  The group will be a confidential and safe place to bring together a small group of students with similar problems to get information, skills and for peer support.  If you are interested in participating contact your counselor (Mr.. Ferrin, Mr.. Miles or Ms. Skinner) or Susan Chappelear at 267-1336 for further information. 

 

SENIORS:  Chad from Jostens will be here on Friday, November 21st in the main hall at lunchtime.  He has rings to deliver and will be taking any late orders if you have not yet ordered your senior stuff.  Make sure to stop by and see him if you have any questions.

 

The annual fall canned food drive has started – each class and the staff have boxes in the halls to put their canned food into.  Student Council will also be going door to door this weekend to get donations for the food drive. 

There will a prize awarded to the class with the most cans – and if we total over 1500 can donations the whole school will receive an hour long lunch in December.  If you have any questions or want to donate please see a student council

member.

 

Marshfield's third annual poetry slam will happen on Wednesday, Dec. 10.  For all you poets out there, it is time to start preparing a new piece to present at the slam.  For fans of the poetry slam, it is time to make plans to attend.  The slam will be hosted by the MHS English Department in the Drama Lab and begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10.  If you're not sure what a poetry slam is you will start hearing about it in your English class and will see a video of it at this week's pep assembly featuring last year's champion poet.  Interested students can ask their English teachers for more information or see Mrs. Hampton in Room 143.

 

Students:  SWOYA will be closed on Wed. Thurs, and Friday, November 26, 27 and 28.

 

 

"Students and Staff: It is time to put together Christmas Shoe Boxes again!  Please remember to bring your items for the shoe boxes to your advisory class. Children suffering from war and natural disasters really appreciate receiving these shoe box gifts. The advisory that brings in the most items will win ice cream!  Some things you can bring in are: small toy cars and trucks, small stuffed animals or dolls, yo yo's, flashlights with batteries, hard candy & sugar free gum, See your advisor for more gift ideas. Deadline is November 20th!"

Readers of Adventure Stories:  – Come to the Library and enter the chance to win a jar full of CANDY.  One guess for each ADVENTURE book you have read this school year, will get you one treat a day.  The more you have read. . .the more chances you have to win.  Contest ends at 3:13 on November 25, 2008.

Our next meeting will be Today, the 20th in the west gym during lunch.  Don't forget to bring in your nonperishable food for the Thanksgiving Day baskets.  All basket items are due by November 21st, you can take the food to Angie Kemp in the west gym or Sarah Button in room 147.  The girl that brings the most items will receive 10 Dutch Dollars!!!

 

ATHLETES

 

WINTER ATHLETES, CHEER & DANCE TEAMS:  We will have winter MEET THE PIRATES NIGHT next Tuesday, November 25th starting at 5 PM in the main gym.  All teams will have team photos, be introduced, scrimmage and can get a hamburger provided by the booster club.  Please let your parents know about this entertaining evening as we want them to come.  GO PIRATES!!!

 

Reminder:  Tryouts for the Pirate Volleyball Club 16 and under and 18 and under teams will be held this Sunday from 2:00-5:00 in the main gym.  Remember to bring your CEVA paperwork and $15 tryout fee.  For more information, please visit the website at www.piratevolleyball.com

Boys & Girls interested in playing golf this spring need to come to an informational meeting in student services on Thursday, TODAY, November 20th during lunchtime…………....Coach Mindie Wilson and Scott Banks will be there to answer questions and hand out information.

COLLEGE

The Marine Corps is having a Marine Option $150,000.00 scholarship talk, along with a Career talk for those who may want to find out the what opportunities the Marine Corps may be able to provide them. This will be held in the library on Thursday, TODAY,  the 20th of Nov. during lunch.

On December 16th all juniors will be attending College 101 at SOCC.  Students will be gone from approximately 8:30-11:45.  The intent of this event is to give students an idea of possibilities, and to inspire them to be academically successful and make post-secondary education plans.  During this time students will attend two classes at SOCC.  The students get to choose these classes.

 

Southwestern is partnering with OSAC, ASPIRE and Oregon GEAR UP and Educational Credit Management Corporation to offer a free College Night in Oregon event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, on the Coos Bay campus. Parents and future college students are invited to come eat pizza and get information about planning and paying for college, as well as the opportunity to win one of four $500 scholarships. The agenda is as follows:

§  6 to 6:30 p.m., free pizza and soda at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute;

§  6:30 to 7 p.m., overview session in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts;

§  7 to 8:30 p.m., three half-hour break-out sessions back-to-back in the Lakeview Rooms; and

§  8:30 to 9 p.m., scholarship drawing in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts.

 

 2009 Engineering Discovery Showcase
Friday, January 23, 2009 - Engineering Building, Intel / Gordon & Betty Moore Atrium - 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (lunch served from 12-1:00 p.m.)

The Engineering Discovery Showcase is a fun, hands-on, interactive event for students interested in engineering and computer science. Meet PSU engineering and computer science faculty and students; learn about the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science degree programs and innovative research opportunities through interactive lab tours. This is a great opportunity to discover more about student life as well as hands-on engineering design and research.  If you are interested please contact student services
