Students - I have received numerous complaints from our neighbors concerning students trespassing on their private property.  Trespassing on private property is a crime, (Criminal Trespass), and many neighbors have given me the authority to arrest people who trespass on their property.  Please show our neighbors respect, and stay off of their property.  Popular hang outs such as the "Cigarette Hut," "Smoker's Shack," "The Smoke Hole," etc, are off limits.   You have been forewarned.  Thank you for your cooperation.  - Officer Labrousse

December 26th is the regular deadline for the January 24, 2008 SAT test.  Students who haven't taken it SHOULD take it on this date and those who qualify for free or reduced lunch qualify for a fee waiver.  See your counselor in student services or at the Harding Center for the fee waiver form or if you need assistance with the registration process.

Reminder:  Students planning to test for the Oregon driving permit  during   winter  break should pick up the required DMV enrollment form from the principal's office by  December 19.  Please plan to pick up the form before you leave for break.  No one will be available at school to provide one  between Dec. 22 and January 2 .12/19

New Years Eve Powwow, this is a free, safe, community, family and school wide event.  Harding Building 775 S. 7th street, CB.  Start time 5:30, Grand entry 7:30. For more information call Dawn 267-1392.12/19

 

Senior parents will meet January 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the MHS library to continue planning the senior all-night party.  There will NOT be a meeting in December as was previously planned.1/7

 

Come to the Library and enter our Christmas contest.  Correctly guess the number of kisses in the glass tree and you will win all the stash inside, plus some more!  Any book you have read this school year makes you eligible to guess.  Each day you enter, you get a sweet treat for getting into the spirit.  Limited to one entry per day.

A new group has started, on Monday’s at Lunchtime for students dealing with family members, who use alcohol or drugs.  The group will be a confidential and safe place to bring together a small group of students with similar problems to get information, skills and for peer support.  If you are interested in participating contact your counselor (Mr.. Ferrin, Mr.. Miles or Ms. Skinner) or Susan Chappelear at 267-1336 for further information.

National Honor Society members are reminded to report directly to the library after 3rd period on Thursday for the Alumni Tea. You will be given passes to return to advisory after study hall.

The Marshfield Chess Team traveled to Sutherlin High School Saturday. Varsity players Roth Riley, Eithan Smith, Nick Berglund, Shawn Hutchinson, and Katelyn Traschel all had strong games in defeating Sutherlin 3.5 to 1.5 and shutting out Oakland High School 5-0. The short-handed JV team defeated Sutherlin and Oakland 2 to 1 with outstanding efforts by Albert Lopez, TJ Martin-Lokey, and Sunset 8th grader Michael Stephens. Both teams are now in second place in the Southern Oregon Chess League with 3-1 records. The Chess Team is looking to avenge its only league loss to nationally-ranked Coquille High School when the Red Devils visit "OUR HOUSE" on January 10th. Tickets are still available for this big matchup, though they are going fast. Get yours today! (Stephens)

Students- Video and More in North Bend has a great deal for students at MHS, all you need are good grades. Bring in your report card and receive Video Bucks for use toward any movie or game rental. You can earn $1 for each "A", .50 for each "B", up to $5.00 in Video Bucks for your achievements. We have a large selection of gamers and for movie watchers we have it all.12/18

The annual fall canned food drive has started – each class and the staff have boxes in the halls to put their canned food into. Student Council will also be going door to door this weekend to get donations for the food drive.
There will a prize awarded to the class with the most cans – and if we total over 1500 can donations the whole school will receive an hour long lunch in December. If you have any questions or want to donate please see a student council
member.


CLUB

"Yahweh's Daughters Christmas party is Friday at lunch. Bring a $5 wrapped gift, some finger food and a friend. We will be making Christmas tree decorations. Please bring all Candy Bar money and left over candy bars too."12/19

Z Club will be sponsoring a family this year for Christmas. Any staff or students that would like to donate items for this family can go to the school store for a list of items that the family is in need of. Be sure to check off the items that you will be donating so we don't have to many of the same thing. **Merry Christmas**

OUTDOOR CLUB: Outdoor club will be meeting on Thursday December 18th at Lunch, in room 215. We will be talking about our upcoming Snow and Surf trips. This meeting is mandatory for all of those that are interested in going on the trips. See you there.12/18

ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE

 

For the 3rd year, the library is opening up its Treasure Chest of books during the lunch hour On Monday and Tuesday December 15 & 16  The Chest is full of books for readers of all ages.  Students can select a book to gift to someone else.  A donation is appreciated, but not required.

National Honor Students will be there to assist you.  Give the gift of reading to someone special in your life.  12/16

AUDITIIONS!! 

Auditions for the Spring Shakespeare play will be next Tuesday,

December 16, from 3:30 to 5 in the Drama Lab. 

There MAY be call backs on Wednesday the 17th from 3:30 to 5
as well.  No prepared scene work or monolog is required.

The cast list will be up on December 19th and we will begin

rehearsals when we return from break.

This will be a major commitment of about 12 weeks rehearsal

time; please be sure your schedule will allow it.12/16

On December 16th all juniors will be attending College 101 at SOCC.  Students will be gone from approximately 8:30-11:45.  The intent of this event is to give students an idea of possibilities, and to inspire them to be academically successful and make post-secondary education plans.  During this time students will attend two classes at SOCC.  The students get to choose these classes.12/16

AUDITIIONS!! 

Auditions for the Spring Shakespeare play will be next Tuesday,

December 16, from 3:30 to 5 in the Drama Lab. 

There MAY be call backs on Wednesday the 17th from 3:30 to 5
as well.  No prepared scene work or monolog is required.

The cast list will be up on December 19th and we will begin

rehearsals when we return from break.

This will be a major commitment of about 12 weeks rehearsal

time; please be sure your schedule will allow it.12/16

  

Seniors

You need to get your Senior pictures into the yearbook committee by TODAY, December 12, 2008.12/12

 

Reminder:  Students planning to test for the Oregon driving permit  during   winter  break should pick up the required DMV enrollment form from the principal's office by  December 19.  Please plan to pick up the form before you leave for break.  No one will be available at school to provide one  between Dec. 22 and January 2 .12/19

Students- Video and More in North Bend has a great deal for students at MHS, all you need are good grades.  Bring in your report card and receive Video Bucks for use toward any movie or game rental.  You can earn $1 for each “A”, .50 for each “B”, up to $5.00 in Video Bucks for your achievements.  We have a large selection of gamers and for movie watchers we have it all.12/18

 

All female students who had a PE class 1st trimester, please come and claim any PE uniforms or other clothing items by Friday the 12th. Items left after Friday will be cleaned and donated.12/12

 

The Following MHS bus stop will be switched to Bus 42 on Wednesday morning 12/10.  MEXI LOOP, WISCONSIN, ANCHORAGE RD AND CAMMANN RD.  These stops will also be picked up 40 minutes earlier than normal.  Any questions please call 888-9131.

All of the High School students that ride bus 38 are being switched to bus 40 starting Wed. morning 12/10.  Stops will all be the same with the exception of being picked up 1 hour earlier than your normal pick up time.  We are making this change so we can get all the students to school on time.12/12

 

MARSHFIELD BOOSTER CLUB IS CURRENTLY SEEKING VERY RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS TO VOLUNTEER DURING THE HOLIDAY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT . The MHS library will be closed on Thursday 12/18 from 9:30 through lunch for the National Honor Society Alumni Tea.  Make sure that you plan ahead if you need to check out or return materials because the library will not be open during study hall or lunch on that day.12/18

 

Senior Portfolio Reminder:

You should have already turned in your resume and 1 letter of recommendation by now.  Due yesterday was awards and achievements.  If you have not turned these things in, do so today!  Please take them to Mrs. Landrum in room 145 ASAP.  Thank you. 12/12

 

Senior parents will meet January 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the MHS library to continue planning the senior all-night party.  There will NOT be a meeting in December as was previously planned.12/19

We have $3.00 buttons that we can put your picture on and give it to you the next day.

Come to the Library and enter our Christmas contest.  Correctly guess the number of kisses in the glass tree and you will win all the stash inside, plus some more!  Any book you have read this school year makes you eligible to guess.  Each day you enter, you get a sweet treat for getting into the spirit.  Limited to one entry per day.

 

Students

A new group has started, on Monday’s at Lunchtime for students dealing with family members, who use alcohol or drugs.  The group will be a confidential and safe place to bring together a small group of students with similar problems to get information, skills and for peer support.  If you are interested in participating contact your counselor (Mr.. Ferrin, Mr.. Miles or Ms. Skinner) or Susan Chappelear at 267-1336 for further information. 

 

 

The annual fall canned food drive has started – each class and the staff have boxes in the halls to put their canned food into.  Student Council will also be going door to door this weekend to get donations for the food drive. 

There will a prize awarded to the class with the most cans – and if we total over 1500 can donations the whole school will receive an hour long lunch in December.  If you have any questions or want to donate please see a student council

member.

Attention Z Clubbers that signed up for Bell Ringing at Fred Meyers this Saturday the 13th: It is very important that you see Mrs. Leach, Pirate Hall  to get your time and placement. The Zonta members are excited to have you helping them out this year!12/12

 

Z Club will be sponsoring a family this year for Christmas.  Any staff or students that would like to donate items for this family can go to the school store for a list of items that the family is in need of.  Be sure to check off the items that you will be donating so we don't have to many of the same thing.   **Merry Christmas**

 

OUTDOOR CLUB: Outdoor club will be meeting on Thursday December 18th at Lunch, in room 215.  We will be talking about our upcoming Snow and Surf trips.  This meeting is mandatory for all of those that are interested in going on the trips.  See you there.12/18

Attention Seniors, this Thursday, December 11th, That  is TONIGHT, a representative from the SOCC Financial Aid Office will be in the MHS library at 7:00 pm to present information on finding college money and to explain how to file the FAFSA—Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Every Senior should attend. Bring your parents/guardians too!12/12

 

SENIORS remember to attend the Financial Aid Night at the MHS library on Dec. 11th at 7 pm.  This is an important time for you and your parents to get information you need to apply for the FAFSA.  Attending this event will assist you in receiving scholarships, grants, financial aid and work study.  BE THERE!!12/11

 

On December 16th all juniors will be attending College 101 at SOCC.  Students will be gone from approximately 8:30-11:45.  The intent of this event is to give students an idea of possibilities, and to inspire them to be academically successful and make post-secondary education plans.  During this time students will attend two classes at SOCC.  The students get to choose these classes.
