Please congratulate the Pirate Forensic Team for doing very well at the University of Oregon Tournament last weekend:

 

Those winning awards were:  Jamey Moriarty and Ellen Fields in Senior Dual Interpretation took 5th place.

                                          Justin Rodriguez won 2nd in Senior Serious Interpretation

                                           Logan Emlet and Justin Rodriquez won 3rd place in Junior Public Debate

                                           Parker Forte won a 6th speaker award in the Junior Public Debate Division

                                           McKenzie Freeman won a college scholarship to the University of Oregon Debate Institute

                                           Will Moriarty won a high school scholarship to the University of Oregon Debate Camp

 

 

Reminder to all staff and students - the Influenza season is here.  If you have a fever, you NEED to stay home from school or work.  You must stay home until you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen.  As with all other illnesses, the best way to avoid becoming sick is to wash your hands, especially after using the restroom and before you eat, drink, or apply cosmetics.  Dispose of used Kleenex in the trash immediately and wash your hands.  Thank you for help in preventing illness.3/5

 

Attention Seniors! The All-Night Party Committee is looking for artists to design the front cover of Thank You notes to be used for the donations for the party. The design should be appropriate for a Thank You card but does not need to have the words “Thank You” in the design. Artwork needs to be sent, as an attachment, to Mary Fields at mfields@eou.edu. The final size of the art needs to be no larger than 5 ½ x 4 ¼ . Selections need to be received by Monday, March 2, 2009. The top 4 entries will be used for the party’s Thank You cards with the students name on the back of the card. 3/2

 

Oregon Coast Community Action is a nonprofit network of programs that feed, house, warm and educate people. The Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA is one of our programs we sponsor.  We will be having a fundraiser selling used toys.   This will be the “Toy Tales” sale.  If you would like to help or need more information please call Becky Yaeger at 888-7436

Yahweh's Daughters, Acquire the Fire tickets must be purchased by Feb. 27, next Friday, if we are to get the best price! Permission forms must be turned in no later then Wednesday, Feb 25. If you plan to attend ATF with us this year, get your permission form to Ms Thompson in PH600 ASAP!2/25

 

Yahweh's Daughters is showing the video "Magdalena: released from shame", a film about women who encountered Jesus during his three years of ministry and how it changed their lives. The film will be playing Wednesday at lunch in  PH600 and continuing through out the rest of the week. Any girl is welcome to join us! There will be Pizza and goodies on Friday for the girls who have attended the showing. Join us!

COLLEGES

 

College bound seniors: The OSAC Scholarship application is due on Monday, March 2nd.  A transcript request sheet must be turned into Mrs. Patnode as soon as possible in order for OSAC to receive the information in time.   Go to:  www.getcollegefunds.org for the application.

 

The MHS Local Scholarship is available online on the MHS homepage.  This application is due at 3:30 on March 13th.  All college bound students and any student planning on vocational/technical training should apply - we gave out over $150,000 in scholarships to MHS seniors last year!  If you need help please see your counselor or Jennifer Bunnell in Student Services

 

REMINDER for SENIORS Monday, March 2nd is the OSAC and SOCC scholarship deadline.

 

SENIORS the Marshfield Local scholarship deadline is Friday, March 13th at 3:30pm.

 

College bound Seniors: Talent Search Coordinator, Neil Winberg, will be in his office (room 137) after school on Mondays through Thursdays until 4:30 pm. He would be happy to help answer any questions or provide advice concerning college applications, FAFSA, or scholarships. 2/15

Playoff Game Girls BB    vs Dallas High School     @ 7 PM

 

STUDENTS

 

Our girls basketball team will host Dallas High School Today, February 25 starting at 7 PM in the first round of the 2009 OSAA State Playoffs.   

 

Since OSAA sanctioned girls basketball in 1976, this is the first time our girls' basketball team has hosted a home state playoff.  The girls would appreciate having you attend the game Wednesday.  With the purchase of your ticket, you will receive a FREE hamburger meal from the MHS Booster Club.   LET'S FILL PIRATE PALACE in support of our girls' basketball team.

 

The gates will open at 5:45 PM.  This being an OSAA playoff game, the ticket price is-  $6 for adults and $4 for students.   Only official OSAA passes are allowed.

Just a reminder to you that there is a fundraising volleyball game for Mr. MHS vs. Mr. Bulldog tomorrow night at North Bend High School at 7pm. Cost is $3.00 to get in. Please spread the word and come and support the Mr. MHS Candidates! All money raised by MHS will go towards the Share Bear Snack Program to support hungry kids in the Coos Bay School District.

The goal of the event is to get more high school girls interested in math through fun and challenging hands-on sessions. Students can win prizes, including $500 scholarships to WOU. The date of the event is Saturday, Feb. 21st. Come see Mr. Winberg or Mr. Finney for a permission slip.2/21

Counselors are available during study hall/advisory time to help seniors with scholarships and college applications.  If students are interested they need to make an appointment with their counselor.

 

College bound Seniors: Talent Search Coordinator, Neil Winberg, will be in his office (room 137) after school on Mondays through Thursdays until 4:30 pm. He would be happy to help answer any questions or provide advice concerning college applications, FAFSA, or scholarships. 2/15

 

Seniors wanting scholarships and/or applying to colleges should attend one of the financial aid sessions in the MHS library computer lab.  Students will need to bring a completed FAFSA worksheet.  Staff members will be able to assist students in the filing process on:

Engineers Week Dinner-Are you interested in learning about a high paying career in the Engineering or Surveying Fields? If you answered “YES”, we would like to invite you to the 3rd Annual Engineers Dinner to be held on February 17th at the Coos Bay Red Lion Hotel. Professionals and Post Secondary Schools will be presenting educational and occupational information as well as discussing opportunities face to face with students. STUDENTS:  Spring sports are starting soon.  If you are interested in playing baseball, softball, tennis, golf or participating in the Track team please come get your gold card by February 23rd.  Come to the athletic office located in the main building with the Dean’s office.  For questions about spring sports come talk to Mrs. Reiber.  GO PIRATES!2/24

 

 

All girls interested in Playing Tennis this Spring we will start have preseason conditioning beginning today (Wednesday the 21st) at 3:30 PM in the Fitness Center. Conditioning will be on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays!

Talent Search & Upward Bound females: We will be taking a trip to Western Oregon University to participate in Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics Day. The goal of the event is to get more high school girls interested in math through fun and challenging hands-on sessions. Students can win prizes, including $500 scholarships to WOU. The date of the event is Saturday, Feb. 21st. Come see Mr. Winberg or Mr. Finney for a permission slip.2/21
