H1N1 vaccine will be made available to every student in the district, at their school. Marshfield students will also have this opportunity sometime in the next few weeks. All students were sent a mailing to their home about the vaccine and consent forms should be returned to the main office. If you'd like to be included, please return that form to the main office as soon as possible. Students will be notified later as to when that clinic will occur at Marshfield. Nurse Webster

The Marshfield School Based Health Center is again offering the H1N1/Swine flu vaccine. All children and young adults age 6 months through 24 years are in the priority population to be immunized. Most of the vaccine given will be in the form of a nose spray. This nose spray contains a live virus that has been altered or changed to be safe. Live vaccines have been used safely for years to protect against measles and chicken pox. There may also be some vaccine available through shots. Only one dose of nose spray (or one shot) is required for children who are 10 years or older. The vaccine should protect you from the flu within 8-10 days. However, children younger than 10 years will require a second dose in about 30 days.

The clinic in the Harding Building is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-4 and on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3. The vaccine is free and available to all Coos Bay School District students. Parents do not need to be present for the immunization; however, parental signature is required for children 14 years and younger.
