Eight students from The Marshfield Times staff attended the national high school journalism convention over the last four days in Portland. They entered a copy of the February issue of the newspaper and earned 6th place in the national Best of Show competition. Four students also competed in individual competitions and two earned national awards. Sophomore Lucia Vaughan won Honorable Mention in editorial cartooning and Amy Laube, also a sophomore, won Honorable Mention in newswriting (which may be the toughest category to compete in). They were the only two individual award winners from Oregon. Of course this year's seniors, led by their Editor-in-Chief Markus Boesl, also deserve a lot of the praise for the 6th place award.

Results of last Tuesday night's Poetry Slam are
1st place: sophomore Tomas Edwards
2nd place: senior Aria Kelland
3rd place (tie): senior Mike Millan and freshman Cody Glenn
In all, there were 20 poets who competed (including two of our foreign exchange students in a poem presented in three languages- very cool) and an estimated 300 people in attendance. It was a very fun evening.
