See "Shrek" and help Coos County Kids!

Families and children are invited to come see "Shrek" at the Egyptian Theatre and support vulnerable children at an Oregon Coast Community Action fundraiser for CASA of Coos County. The fun begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the theatre, with free balloons, candy, face painting, magic tricks and crazy antics with the Alley Oops clown troupe!

Tickets will cost $5 and all proceeds will go to the CASA program, which helps advocate for vulnerable children in Coos County, because every child in our region needs a CASA.  Come out and enjoy a fun and entertaining movie, and help support the children in our community. Check out our new and Improved School Store!!!

Come check out our new & improved school store.  The Galley has great prices and is open before school and at lunch.  New foods include Chimichanga Mondays, Taquito Tuesday and Waffle Wednesdays, (mornings only).  New Pirate Nation shirts are also available in the store and football games.  Come get your “Pirate Gear”.

 

Teacher conferences are this week.   They will be on Wednesday October 15, 2008 from 5-8 in the Gym.

 

PICTURE PACKETS:  After all the announcements that have been read over the past 2 weeks, the main office still has over 80 packets of pictures that have not been picked up!!!!   Parents paid for these pictures and so I have to assume they want them brought home....please BE RESPONSIBLE and them up.  (Mrs. Harrington)

 

If you do not have a student body card/ID card you are still able to attend the games at MHS, however if you have not purchased your ASB sticker, then you will be pay $3 to attend the game.

 

 

Readers of SPOOKY STORIES BAG THE TREATS – Come to the Library and enter the chance to win a jar full of CANDY.  One guess for each SPOOKY book you have read this school year.  The more you have read. . .the more chances you have to win.  Contest ends at 3:15 on October 31.  

 

PICTURE RETAKES RESCHEDULED;  Picture retakes for students and staff has been changed to Wednesday, October 29th.

 

CO-ED Flag Football will begin October 13th, TODAY, for any interested 7th-12th grader.  You can sign up at the Boys and Girls Club at 3333 Walnut Ave or pick up a registration form in the MHS main office.  Cost is $15/members or $30/non-members and covers membership, team shirts and prizes for winning team. Sophomores and Juniors who are taking the PSAT on October 15th there will be a Test Taking Workshop about the PSAT during Advisory study hall time TODAY. 

 

Talent Search Freshmen and sophomores: Sign up with Neil Winberg in room 137 if you want to attend the Roseburg College Fair on Wednesday, October 22nd.

 

Seniors and Juniors are invited to attend Roseburg High School's annual college fair on October 22.  Over 65 colleges from Washington and Oregon will be represented at the fair.  The event is a great opportunity to learn about schools like Western Oregon, Oregon State, Willamette, Gonzaga, Washington State, University of Oregon, OIT, Umpqua Community College and many others.  Students will have the opportunity to meet with college admissions reps face-to-face, ask questions about financial aid and school costs, and receive free materials and brochures from the colleges.  Marshfield is only sending one bus to the event, so sign up early as space is limited.  The bus will be leaving Marshfield at 11:00 a.m. and will return by 6:00 p.m.  If you are interested in attending, please sign up in the student services office with Mrs. Wilson. 

 

An informational presentation for Dartmouth will be held, Monday, October 13, 2008 at 6:30 pm at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland Oregon.

 

Western Oregon University will be providing a Making College Happen workshop at the WOU campus on Friday, October 31, 2008.  The registration deadline is October 17th and space is limited.  See student services for more information.

  

The PSAT will be given on October 15th from 8:20 AM to 11:30 AM in assigned rooms at Pirate Hall.  The PSAT is the only way juniors can enter into the National Merit Scholarship contest.  The PSAT is also excellent practice for the SAT.  The cost is $13.00, please make checks out to Marshfield High School.  Juniors can sign up for the PSAT at the Main Office with Mrs. Harrington before school and at 3:15 p.m. by October 3, 2008.  Sign-up early as there is a specific number of exams that were ordered and so testing spots are available on a first come first serve basis.   Oregon Department of Education will pay for any sophomore, who would like to take the test this year, sophomores must see their advisor to sign-up.  There will be a PSAT workshop scheduled during advisory time and will be announced in the future.  If you have any further questions ask your counselor or advisor.
